Briefly we studied below topics regarding WordPress in Part-1:

  • What is WordPress? What is a WordPress theme?
  • Where to find WordPress themes?
  • Why WordPress instead of Blogger?

Now we are entering an advanced topic of WordPress:

What is Plugins and Widgets? How to use them in WordPress?

A plugin is a software addition that adds extra benefits and features to your website. By using plugins you are able to expand or upgrade the capabilities of your WordPress blogs. The good news is there are hundreds of plugins available for every purpose, from keeping your blog statistics to optimizing your blog for search engines.

Some plugins add advertising, and monetizing to your website such as Google AdSense plugin. Google AdSense matches ads to your site’s content, and you earn money whenever your visitors click on them. Later i will write a more detailed post about Google AdSense and how to make money from it.

Plugins, widgets are basically the same thing. They add links and feeds and other special features.

What are the plugin categories that WordPress allows?

  • Administration: These plugins help you administer your website more effectively. A good example is spell checking.
  • Business and Monetizing: Would you be interested in to build in a shopping cart to your WordPress blog and make money from it?
  • Design, Layout and Styles: With these plugins you are allowed to customize your posts and comments
  • Links: These plugins include Blog links, incoming links and random linking system
  • Outside Information: These plugins import external data from outside the WordPress website. Such as data from Amazon.com. If you are an Amazon.com affiliate you may like the idea of showing the image of the products that you want to sell into your blog.

We will later discuss what an affiliate program is. This is another good way of monetizing your blog. Apart from your core business which you are blogging about, you can also make good money from affiliate programs with your blog.

In the next part i will further discuss with you why you should work with Plugins.

Hi Lukxiufung, it is better you to not to show that you have 13 RSS subscribers only, because your visitors will rate you by looking at the number of RSS subscribers, if they see that you only have 13 subscribers in your list, they may easily think that it is not worth subscribing to your blog. Unless you have 50+ members there is no need to show the number of RSS subscribers.
Don’t worry, just keep writing good content, you can use any post of me by giving my blog a link. Blogging is like running a marathon, finishing is more important than winning.
